That's not fair of them to do that. Have you explained to them that it would allow you to be more independent and not have to always rely on people to read things off the computer? I mean, it's not wrong to need help and rely on others sometimes, but in this case, you shouldn't have to. I know this may seem obvious, you telling them why you would need it, but some people are weird like that, like they may not understand the point of it when, to them, you could just ask someone to read the computer screen for you. I had that mentioned to me one time, I think it was at school in fact, and I decided to myself that if the place didn't have JAWS, I wasn't going to go to that certain room to use it until they got it. Luckily, they only meant that if they couldn't get JAWS for any reason, and they did eventually get it. But yeah, that's really crappy that they don't think it's worth it to get it. But maybe talk to the head person and explain why it would be good to get it, if you haven't already.

What kinds of things do they do on the computers? I wonder why they think installing a screen reader is pointless. It sounds like if anything htey don't know what a screen reader does so since they don't know, they fear taking the risk of installing it. Not sure what the answer is.

Shaf have you though of giving a talk or a demonstration of the screen reader, and educating those unenlightened beings, as to how vital it is in your daily life.If they don't know they will continue to live in ignorance and we owe it to ourselves and the next generation, to educate these numpties.

Remember that each key of a screen reader can be used once, so they should more or less be used only when necessary. I mean, how often do you attend this group? How much do you use the computer, and how much sighted assistance do you regularly acquire? Finally, couldn't your needs be suited in that setting with a demo only.

oh, i've told em everything, but they just ignore me! i wouldn't mind even if i had a demo version, but, they, will, not, do, it! what should i do?

Find another group is my suggestion, but someone already came up with that one. How much do u actually need a computer there anyway? Especially if it's only once a week

could you threaten to prosecute these ignorant numpties, they have to learn that they cannot get away with this.

you could just say well ok then I need someone to read everything to me everytime I use the computer which will end up being more time than just getting a screen reader
